Daycare center «Little Home»

Little Home: Julie Andermatt und Cornelia Bossard

Where the Little Ones Take Center Stage

In the heart of the Papieri district, a special place for the little ones has been created: The «Little Home» daycare center offers more than just childcare — it’s a space for community, growth, and security. For parents, it is a reliable partner that tailors its care to the individual needs of their children. For children, it’s a second home where they feel comfortable and make friends. The daycare’s concept is built on nurturing relationships, professional care, and close collaboration with parents. Managing Director Julie Andermatt and Daycare Manager Cornelia Bossard share insights into their passion project.

Cheerful children's chatter greets us at the entrance. About a dozen children are playing in the lovingly designed, spacious rooms, featuring warm parquet floors and a pastel color scheme. A girl is selling ice cream to her playmates at a small kiosk, while others drill and hammer at a workbench. The wooden mini coffee machine is brewing imaginary coffee, and dolls are being pushed around in strollers. The atmosphere is lively and noisy.

«Just a typical day with kids,»

laughs daycare manager Cornelia Bossard. Daycare center «Little Home» opened its doors at the end of 2024, and in this short time, about 15 children have already found their second home here. You can tell they feel at ease.

The rooms are designed to provide space for movement, creativity, and relaxation. “We wanted to create a place where every child, as well as all caregivers, feel comfortable,” explains Julie Andermatt. She is the managing director of Kita Little Home and founded it together with her brother Jérôme Andermatt and Christoph Gut. Bright rooms, natural materials, and a spacious outdoor area ensure that the children can explore and discover plenty, both indoors and outdoors.

«It has always been important to me that the children spend time in the fresh air every day. That’s why I’m especially proud of the large outdoor area,»

says Julie Andermatt with delight. The outdoor space is indeed a highlight: there’s room for chalk drawings on the ground and puddle dancing after the rain. In the summer, picnics take place on the lawn. «We’re outside every day—rain or shine. Nature is a key part of our concept,» emphasizes daycare manager Cornelia Bossard. «Through nature, the children not only sharpen their senses but also deepen their connection to the environment.»

The Kita Little Home in the Papieri district offers space for up to 46 children—ranging from infants to preschoolers. The children are cared for in four groups. The first group is accommodated on the ground floor, while the others move into the upper floor, which also houses the daycare management’s office. The cozy, warm ambiance of the new building’s wood-concrete composite design is clearly noticeable throughout the space.

«In our daycare, children learn through imitation and role models.»

The mixed-age structure is a deliberate part of the concept: the younger children learn by observing the older ones, while the older children take on responsibilities and feel proud to support the younger ones. «Learning and playing together fosters a sense of community and creates a warm, family-like atmosphere,» explains Cornelia Bossard.

Values like respect, helpfulness, and independence are especially important to the daycare leadership. «The children learn to resolve conflicts peacefully and discover that they can achieve more through cooperation and mutual support,» explains daycare manager Cornelia Bossard. The Kita Little Home team supports this process by providing a safe environment while allowing enough freedom for the children to gain their own experiences.

Great care is taken to ensure a gentle start at Kita Little Home: Every child who joins the daycare goes through a carefully planned settling-in phase. This process is designed to meet the needs of both the child and the parents.

«For parents leaving their child for the first time, this step is often not easy,»

says Julie Andermatt, speaking from personal experience. During the first few days, parents are closely involved: they spend time in the daycare with their child and get to know the team. Gradually, a gentle separation takes place, allowing the children to build trust with their caregivers.

Every day begins with a warm welcome from the caregivers at Kita Little Home. As parents help their children store jackets and shoes in the child-friendly cloakroom, the caregivers take a moment for a brief exchange with them. After the morning circle—where songs are sung and the day’s plan is discussed—children have access to a variety of activities: playing, crafting, group projects, and outdoor adventures.

After lunch—prepared with fresh, regional ingredients—a rest period allows the children to recharge. The afternoon is filled with more creative activities, nature walks, baking banana bread together, or group games. «It’s important to us that the children can bring their own interests into the daily routine,» emphasizes Cornelia Bossard. «Individuality and participation are central to their day-to-day experiences and essential for their future development.»

For the daycare center team, collaboration with parents is of great importance. «Parents are the experts on their children. We see ourselves as partners supporting them,» explains Julie Andermatt. Regular parent-teacher meetings, events, and a dedicated daycare app ensure ongoing communication and actively involve parents in daily life.

The daycare is not just a place for children — it’s a place for families.

«Many parents who move to the Papieri district make their first connections here and become part of the community. We aim to create a network that extends far beyond the daycare,»

explains Julie Andermatt.

Since its opening in December, Kita Little Home has become an integral part of the Papieri district. With its modern infrastructure and well-thought-out concept, it enriches not only the lives of children and families but also the entire neighborhood. «We look forward to growing alongside the Papieri district and continuing to be a place where children, parents, and staff are equally happy,» concludes Julie Andermatt.
