Virtual Museum

Chronicles of people and machines in the first virtual museum of a Swiss paper mill.

Cham paper mill is long gone. But its history and stories are still very much present – thanks to the virtual museum created by the Cham Group in collaboration with Chamapedia. A fabulous way to keep history alive!

The virtual museum is made up of many different modules – ‘history hotspots’ – spread across the entire site. Each of the hotspots on interpretive signs and building plaques provides information, old photos and video footage about that particular location via QR codes.

The virtual museum highlights the mill’s innovations over the past 360 years – right up to the present day – and looks to its future. The video clips and digital links to further information, films and photographs not only bring the Papieri’s industrial history back to life but allow visitors on site to visualize its development in the here and now.

Chamapedia

Our virtual museum was created with the help and support of Chamapedia, which is an independent association that maintains an ever-expanding virtual encyclopedia charting the history of the town of Cham. Chamapedia is modeled on Wikipedia and contains historical facts and accounts pertaining to the area provided by verified experts and accessible to all. The association receives support from the Civic Community of Cham, the Municipality of Cham and various businesses and individuals.
